Shirt & Tie Card

It’s that time of year where Dad’s Grandpa’s, Brothers, Uncle’s and the like are celebrating a day that’s all about them- Fathers Day!  And who couldn’t use a masculine card idea, am I right? So I’ve made this adorable Shirt & Tie Card for you today. Girls are SOOOO much easier to create and buy for.  I am always looking for new ideas for my husband for Fathers Day or Birthdays.  Guys are hard.  What about you?  Do you have any ideas you could share with me on gifts or cards that are masculine?

Shirt & Tie Card

Below, you can watch the video on how to create this Shirt & Tie card.  The dimensions for the card itself are 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″.

Slide the card over to the 1″ mark on your Stampin Trimmer and the proceed to cut 1″ off the back of the card. (on the top)

Next, take your card front and line it up at the 1″ line again on the trimmer.  Cut over to 1 1/2″ on each side.  But don’t cut off!  This is so that you can fold your collar over.

The tie was 3 1/2″ x 3 1/2″.  The video will show you how to fold it.  Enjoy!

Crab Card

Hey guys. I hope you are all enjoying summer. Today I wanted to share this super fun project with you. It’s a crab card. So stinking cute. You could give this to someone during the warmer months, or someone that lives by the ocean or even to a “crabby” person. Be sure to scroll below for the supplies and video.

www.angelasinklink.com

So all of the supplies are listed below to make this card.  There is no stamping, only cutting and assembling.  And trust me, it’s not as difficult as you may think.  The only “tricky” part to this crab card is cutting the oval for the body and making sure to leave enough space so that they fold open.  Let me show you what I mean.

crab card

First, you need to cut a normal piece of cardstock in half.  5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″.

crab card www.angelasinklink.com

Next, Put the large oval framelit at the top.  Now, before you run it through the big shot, you want to MAKE SURE that you’ve left a little bit of space at the top of the oval where there is no paper.  This is going to keep the card connected so you can open and close it without any adhesive

Next, we need to cut out all the pieces.

The Claws are made with the smaller oval framelits and then I used scissors to cut a triangle in each one.

Crab Card

Crab Card

Next, we made the legs.  To do this, I first cut out the 2 1/2″ ovals. Then, I went back over them with the framelit and turned it sideways before cutting on the Big Shot.  This is how I got that claw shape.

Crab Card

I forgot to take a picture of the mouth in black.  I just cut out an oval first and then held the framelit over it again to make it smaller and have the pointy top and bottom.

The Eyes were made with the 1″ and 1/2″ Circle punch.  The strip of black to hold the claws down is 1/4″ x 1″.

Check out this video to see how it all came together!

Product List

Thanks so much for checking me out today.  I hope you re-create this Crab Card for yourself or someone you love!  Remember to Think It, Ink It!- Angela

Beginner Tools & Supplies for Cardmakers

Beginner Tools & Supplies for Cardmakers

Beginner Tools & Supplies for cardmakers

Hi everybody. Today I want to talk about beginner tools & supplies for cardmakers.  Kate wrote me and told me ” I am just getting started, so my biggest concern is gathering the right tools and supplies”.  Well I thought more of you might be interested in hearing my answer, so I’m going to share that with all of you today.

1.Stampin’ Trimmer
126889s this is an absolute must-have. I will admit that I have many cutting tools for cardstock, but this is the absolute best and here’s why. It is extra-wide at 6 1/4″. This gives you an extra 1 1/4″ on the right-hand side making it easy for cutting smaller projects. An extendable ruler on the left side which brings your cutting area out to a whopping 14 1/2″ which is great if you’re scrapbooker and always using 12 x 12″ card stock. It also has a scoring blade in addition to storage underneath for your extra blades. And let’s face it, you can’t make a card without cutting paper right? So don’t waste your time or money buying a yucky one – this is the one you want.
2.Bone Folder
102300s while this doesn’t look like much, let me tell you this baby is a real winner. This helps you to score crisp folds on your card stock. Must have.
3.Paper Snips Scissors
103579s whether you’re cutting card stock or ribbon, opening a new box of goodies, you’re going to need a good pair of scissors. What makes these great? Their small, their sharp, and have a pointy tip which makes it easy for cutting around embellishments.
4.2″ Circle Punch
133782s punches are great way to add some dimension to your cards and circles are my favorite. Can’t tell you why, they’re just more appealing to my eyes over squares or flowers. I happen to think the 2″ Circle Punch is the perfect size for most projects.
5.Big Shot
143263s this bad boy is the mother of all tools. I find it very hard to make a card without using this handy machine. Now it’s on the higher end of the tools but well worth the investment. Plus, if you buy from me – it comes with a three-year warranty as opposed to a big-box store which only has one year and will only send you replacement parts. My Big Shot broke at three years and one month. Just what? Stampin’ Up! sent me a new one no questions asked. How’s that for service? Oh yeah baby. So what is this bad boy do? This machine is designed to not only cut shapes from your die cuts but also to easily dry emboss your card stock. So when you see card stock that has raised images like flowers are polkadots or trees, that was created on this machine. A lot of times when you see treat box, jars or ice cream scoops cut out of paper, they were all created on the Big Shot.
6.Whisper White 8-1/2″ X 11″ Card Stock
100730s all papers are the same, right Ang? Oh no my friend. Card stock is vastly different. You want to look for heavyweight card stock when making cards or scrapbooking. 80 – 100 pounds is a great weight for paper. Any less than that and you are looking at a card that will flop over when it gets put up on the mantle or the countertop for everyone to see.
7.Fast Fuse Adhesive
129026s this one is tricky. Everyone has their favorites and there is a different adhesive for different projects. For example, Fast Fuse adhesive is a super strength adhesive that bonds instantly and neatly- making it perfect for heavier layers or small 3-D items. Snail adhesive is a great double-sided tape and really easy to apply and refill. Multipurpose liquid glue is a crafter’s dream- it adhere’s to glitter and other embellishments including cardstock. It has a narrow tip, a strong bond in dries clear. Then there are the Mini Glue dots in the Tear n’ Tape adhesive. Mini glue dots are kind of like if you used a glue gun and had a little bit of glue to use to adhere something heavy. Tear n’ Tape is also a strong adhesive it but it has a paper backing that you need to peel off. It’s also perfect for boxes and 3D items.
8.Rhinestone Basic Jewels
144220s anything that adds a little bit of interest to your card is the icing on the cake. There are rhinestone jewels, ribbon, paperclips, sequins, etc. whatever catches your eye!
9.Basic Black Archival Stampin’ Pad
140931s this is my favorite ink!!! This is a permanent ink that has a rich deep black color. It works well with rubber stamps or photopolymer.
10.Uninked Stampin’ Spots
141822s when you are just starting out, you want to have as many colors as possible without spending a fortune, am I right? Plus you want all the colors right away! No patience! ha ha ha. The way to do it on a budget is to grab The Stampin ink refills. They are only $3.75 each. Typically you use these to refill your ink pads. BUT…you can use these with the little Uninked Stampin’ Spots, which come 5 to a pack for only $9. PLUS, they also travel really well for those weekend craft retreats.

I hope you enjoyed this list of beginner tools and supplies for cardmakers. If you have any suggestions, comments or questions, please add them to the bottom of this post! I would absolutely LOVE to hear from you!! And you may even see your name published here one day!
Happy Stamping,
Angela

Scrappy Saturdays Week #1

Scrappy Saturday

Well hello everyone!  Hope you are all enjoying the month of August!  I have been having a fantastic summer. One of the cool things I did this summer, was to take an inventory on my life. Dah dah dah- how dramatic, I know!  But honestly, I took a hard look at what makes me happy and what doesn’t and eliminated a lot of things that I like to call a “time suck”. Now, I won’t get into what made me go down such an intense journey this summer, but I will tell you that I feel like there’s huge weight  lifted off my shoulders. It wasn’t anything drastic that I eliminated, but a lot of clutter around the house in catching up with old friends that we haven’t seen in the long time and going back to basics – which includes my Stampin’ Up! business.

So, why do you care, right? That’s a great question my friend. Because it’s affecting my Stampin’ Up! business as well. You see, 13 years ago my cousin introduced me to scrapbooking and I fell head over heels in love.  I did it ALL. THE. TIME.  And then my friend Melissa introduced me to Stampin’ Up! and I saw so many more possibilities with my scrapbooking supplies than just the basics. I love to look at my scrapbooks, and show my family my pages when they’re done and they really love looking at the pages as well. In fact, my boys tell me that I’m way behind and need to get caught up on their books. Ha ha. Working on it dudes!

So, this brings us to today. I have made it one of my priorities to get at least one page done every month. This is going to help me work on my pages which is something I love, and hopefully help you because I’m going to be sharing those pages here on the blog and my social media outlets. I’m calling it “Scrappy Saturdays“.  I look forward to sharing this with all of you guys and hearing your ideas or input or suggestions on what you’d like to see or share what you’re up to.

So let’s start with today’s scrapbook page. This is a Week 1. I just grabbed a pack of recent pictures that I had printed and found the last pictures I have of my kids with my grandmother. I wouldn’t normally take a picture of someone in the hospital, but my grandmother was so lucid that day and so funny and just reminded me of what she was like when I was a kid growing up, that I had to snap some pictures while we were in the room with her. So I want to capture that, because it really is important to capture the smaller events in your life too.   I took pictures and now I’ve got them on this page for you. Let’s take a look at what I did.

Scrappy Saturdays

All the products used are from Stampin Up.  I just recently got the Large Letters Framelits and I seriously love them… They are the perfect size for scrapbooking!  Take a look at what I used.

Lovely Words Thinlits

Hey guys- today I’m going to show you a project using the Lovely Words Thinlits and a sketch that I shared on my Facebook group.  Btw, if you haven’t already joined, you can do that here.  Okay, so I shared this sketch and wanted to see what I could come up with for a card.  I am really excited about how it came out.  Check it out.

Lovely Words Thinlits

Lovely Words Thinlits

Okay, so first of all, I LOVE polka dots.  Like, really love them so this was right up my alley!  I used the Eastern Palace DSP (Designer Series Paper) and punched out 9, 1″ circles.  Of course, I had to take it up a notch and add some embossed polka dots using my embossing folder and Big Shot.

The word “friend” from the Lovely Words Thinlits worked perfectly!!  Even though this word fits inside an oval when you cut it out, you can just snip off the ends to just use the word itself.  Cool beans right?

And this Lemon Lime paper?  Oh my word… it’s the bomb diggity!  My most favorite new color since Pool Party!  It’s awesome.  Look how it just pops off that black and white!  Here’s all the supplies below.

Layering Love

I love this card.  Isn’t it sweet?  I thought the sentiment from the Layering Love stamp set was perfect to send to my cousin who is recovering from a double mastectomy.  She is super strong, but who can’t use a little encouragement, right?

Layering Love

I even stamped the little hearts on the outside of the envelope to help tie it all together.  If you don’t already know, when you have a bulky card or an embellishment like this ribbon that will stick out through the envelope, you have to pay a little bit more postage.  You also have to ask the post office to “hand cancel” the envelope so they don’t try to run it through the machine which not only mangles your card, but might ruin the machine!  You can either go into the Post Office and ask for it to be hand cancelled, or you can just write “hand cancel” on the envelope.  Personally, I go in and ask.  And because I go in pretty often, I find it helps to bring them goodies like chapsticks or hand sanitzers, or chocolate 🙂

Layering Love

So the ribbon I used in this card is retired, but you can still find different kinds of Always Artichoke ribbon in the new catalog to order.  In fact, I’ve got all the supplies listed below- you can just click on them to order or read more about them.

Last week, I went over the new holiday catalog a tiny bit and then showed you how to make some cool cards and ornaments from our new kits.  You can check out the video down below.

Flash Gordon!

Hey guys.  “Literally”- guys 🙂  My oldest son turned 14 last week and I always find it challenging, to say the least, to come up with birthday cards for him.  I was trying to think about things he liked that I could actually create and Flash Gordon came to mind.  He loves Flash Gordon shirts- so I looked one up online and tried to re-create it.

Ice Cream Treats

Flash Gordon

Flash Gordon

Okay so how the heck did I create that lightening bolt right?  The old fashioned way- I traced it.  The picture of a t-shirt I found online?  I zoomed to like 500% on my computer and then I held a piece of copy paper over the computer and traced it.  I know- real technical, ha ha. So once I did that, I took a piece of scrap Crushed Curry Cardstock and cut it out.

flash gordon

flash gordon

Once I had the lightening bolt cut out, I adhered it to a piece of Basic Black cardstock and cut around the edges to give it a shadow look.  The Circle was made using the Circles Collection Framelits and the card base is Real Red.  All Stampin’ Up! of course.

Flash Gordon

Time is almost up to register for this kit to go and stamp set!  RSVP by September 17th to ensure you grab your class!

Jar of Daisies

Hey guys- have you been making tons of Sunflower cards lately? Tis the season right?  Well today I want to show you how I created this Jar of Daisies!

What paper is this, right? I bet you missed it in the catalog!  The background paper comes from the Naturally Eclectic Designer Series Paper.  Isn’t it pretty?  And you know how I love my “blue” colors!  You can see a list of all the supplies below.

The Jar of Love stamp set is perfect for any card or project you have.  Honestly- it’s the bomb.  And these sunflowers are cut out of the new Painted Autumn Designer Series Paper.

First, I stamped the jar on a piece of vellum using StazOn ink, so that it wouldn’t smudge.  I cut it out using the matching framelits as well as a piece of Whisper White that I didn’t stamp.  (So I just cut a blank jar out).

Next, I stamped the stems onto the Whisper White and then I stamped the Soft Sky water onto the vellum.  It would stay wet forever on that vellum if I didn’t dry it, so I threw some clear embossing powder on it and heat set it.

I glued the jars together and adhered them to the card front.  The sunflower were fussy cut and adhered with Stampin Dimensionals.  What do you think of my Jar of Daisies?

All the products used are from Stampin Up.    Take a look at what I used.
